A Series of Unfortunate Events

Book Jacket Redesign

References to Story

The title, positioned with off-kilter alignment, is most notably characterized by the “U” in Unfortunate appearing in flames, referencing the Baudelaire’s home burning down. Additionally, the strange eye tattoo that serves as one of the series’ core mysteries can be found all around this cover.

The back cover of the original jacket showed a letter from the author, Lemony Snicket. This design expands on that idea by placing his letter on his research desk, giving readers a further glimpse into his role in the story.

Original vs Redesign

This book jacket is a reimagining of the original cover of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning, with a heavier emphasis on typography in the design.

This design maintains the absurdist gothic/Victorian aesthetics that the series is known for, while adding subtle clues and references that attentive viewers might pick up on.
