42
Short Film w/ Animated Intro
Film Treatment
This project began with a film treatment, which was used to outline the film’s main concept, a three-act structure for the story, a list of characters. This is also where I would establish the film’s tone, and plan out where to incorporate rate changes in my clips.
Rate change is most notably featured in 42’s time travel sequence, showing the film sped-up and reversed to show the main character traveling back in time. The film’s ending also incorporates rate change (slow-motion) to bring the comedic tone back after an intense moment.
Premiere Pro
After Effects
42 is a comedic short film that I wrote, directed, edited, and starred in, with some help from two other students who also had roles in the film. The story follows a student who finds a time machine in an unlikely place, and uses it to retake a test that he flunked earlier that day. 42 features an animated intro inspired by modern TV title sequences, which adds a dramatic feeling to this otherwise lighthearted story.
Title Sequence
42’s 30-second animated title sequence intentionally contrasts with the more relatable tone of the short film itself. It features a black void which morphs into a large “42,” and a spinning AI-generated notebook paper background, adding an intense and somewhat disorienting feeling to set up the film’s main time travel theme.
